As the cradle of one of the world's oldest civilisations, the seventh-largest country by area, sixth nuclear powerhouse and one of the world's fastest-growing econiomies-- India gives each of us our own reasons to be proud of her. As the world's largest democracy, Indi'a indomitable spirit lies in the country,s 1.21 billion people standing strong and proud. Right since the birth of free India, every citizen is powered with the right to choose the government. Amazing and one of a kind, there are several facets to this great nation that evokes our respect and admiration. One of them is India's philosophy of non-violence. The Indian Army is the world's largest army in terms of military personnel, yet India has the distinction of not invading any country in the last 1,00,000 years of history. Over several millenia India has absorbed and preserved customs, traditions and ideas from both immigrants and invaders. Not surpringly, India is the birthplace of FOUR RELIGIONS. The land of Vedas is also the site of one of the world's largest mosque, the JAMA MASJID. The SANTHOME BASILICA- considered one of the only three tombs of Apostles to be located and preserved- is also in India. A melting pot of diverse customs, religions and languages, india breathes as one nation right from its northern end in JAMMU & KASHMIR to its southermost tip in KANYAKUMARI. From the snow-capped HIMALAYAS to the sun-baked THAR DESERT, from the rainforests of the WESTERN GHATS to the swamps of ASSAM, India's forests and wilderness possess a remarkable natural wealth of vegetation and wildlife. A land of great contrasts in geography, India has three of the world's six BIOGEOGRAPHIC zones, while no other country or even a continent , has more than two! In therms of geographical area, India occupies only 2.4% of the world's total land area, yet it is home to 60-70% of the world's biodiversity. There are about %00 species of mammals in our country, out of which 21 species are not found anywhere else in the world! India is home to the world's largest population of TIGERS. In the wild, Tigers and Lions are not found together in any one country- except India! Some of the rarest animals, such as the snow Leopard and the Golden Langur, call India home. altogether More than 2000 sepcies of Birds can be seen in India. the whole of North America, excluding Mexico, is the fifteen times as large as India, yet contains no more than 775 species. Despite stratling diversity in climates, cultures, languages, customs and traditions, our incredible country, covering an area of 3.29 million sq. km, lives on as one nation- in body and spirit!

Some basic information about The Time Machine project:

The first time we developed a project based on India was during the school year 2009-2010. The project was called “A Magic Flight to India” and the partner school was “Vidyasagar Siksha Niketan” in  NOIDA. (The aim of the school is to educate these children enough to enable them to get entry into the government schooling system so that they can get educational and health benefits guaranteed by government schemes).

The final product was a video which tells of two groups of students, one from Italy and the other from Poland, who plan a virtual tour to India in order to visit their friends. During the visit they explore several aspects of Indian culture, history and economy. We recommend you to watch this video because it will be sort of starting point for our work this year.

As you know, the present project is called “The Time Machine” and is our second journey into “India planet”. This time we will  explore the culture and geography of India but also the different ways in which Indian glorious Past still continues to exist in the present.

In this section we will publish all the relevant materials the students have discovered and posted in the project Social Network. (U.R.L.: http://thetimemachine.ning.com/ )

And  now you can watch "A Magic Flight to India" video!
